Angels Lesson 6
The Devil And His Angels

When you finish reading this lesson go to the Work Sheet.

There are two groups of angels that sinned before God.  The first group of angels that sinned against God are the devil and his angels.
"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."  (Revelation 12:9)
The second group of angels that sinned before God are the angels during the time of Noah.
"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment:  and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;"  ( 2 Peter 2:4-5)

The Devil And His Angels

The devil was not created as the devil in the beginning.  There was an angel, Lucifer, the son of the morning, who decided that he wanted to be God.
"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!"  (Isaiah 14:12)
Lucifer thought that he could establish his throne in heaven and have every one worship him instead of God.
"For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:"  (Isaiah 14:13)
The devil acts like he is a god.
"I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."  (Isaiah 14:14)
The devil is not a god.  He does not know everything, nor can he be every place at the same time, and neither does he have sovereign power.    Everything that God does for man, the devil will imitate. The devil  is a counterfeit of God.  This confrontation with God was before Adam and Eve were created.   When Lucifer sinned against God, he became the Devil.  God made a place called Hell for the devil and his angels.  Hell is the place of punishment for the devil and his angels, not the devil s kingdom.
"9  Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet [thee] at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, [even] all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
10  All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?
11  Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, [and] the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
12  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."  (Isaiah 14:9-15)

The devil will not be in charge of hell or the king of hell.  The devil and his angels will suffer in hell.
"Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:"   (Matthew 25:41)
They do not want to go to hell.  The devil s angels were afraid that Jesus, while he was on earth,  might send them to hell before their time.
"And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? Art thou come hither to torment us before the time?"  (Matthew 8:29)

When Lucifer sinned and became the Devil, he and his angels became disembodied spirits.  Therefore, in order for them to work in this physical visible world, they must posses a physical visible body. Thus we have demon possession.  A human body may hold many of the devil s angels or spirits.
"And he asked him, What [is] thy name? And he answered, saying, My name [is] Legion: for we are many."  (Mark 5:9)
"And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,"  (Luke 8:2)
