The Hebrew word, Arown, which is translated ark in (Exodus 25:22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.)  and  (Exodus 26:33 And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.) literally means coffin.  The Ark of Testimony in the Holy of Holies is a coffin that is symbolic of the death of Jesus.

  (Exodus 25:10 And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.)

1. The ark is  cubits and a half long and  and a half cubit wide and high. Since a cubit equals 18 inches, the ark is 3 feet, 9 inches long, 2 feet, 3 inches wide and 2 feet 3 inches high.

(Exodus 25:11 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about.)

2. The ark is made of shittim wood and is overlayed with  within and without.

(Exodus 25:12 And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it.)

3. The ark is to have  rings made of gold in the four  with two rings on each .

   (Exodus 25:13-16 And thou shalt make staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.

   14  And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them.

   15  The staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken from it.

16  And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.)

   4. The ark is carried by two staves made of shittim wood and overlayed with .

(Exodus 25:21 And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.)

5. On top of the ark is a lid that is called the  seat.

6. The mercy seat is made of pure .

7. A Cherubim is placed at each end of the mercy seat with their  stretched forth covering the mercy seat.

8. Inside of the ark was placed the golden pot that had   , Aaron's  that budded and the tables of the .

9. The manna is symbolic of Jesus as the true  from heaven.

10. Aaron' rod represented the call of Aaron (Hebrews 5:4And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.)) to the priesthood and is symbolic of the call of Jesus to the priesthood after the order of  .

11. The tables of the covenant (ten commandments) represented the word of God and is symbolic of Jesus as the .

34  And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy place.)
